Laundering Stage Blood from Costumes

Titus Andronicus

Have you  noticed–entertainment is getting bloodier!

Is it the Zombie Craze or splash back from the Vampire Fad?   More productions feature actual Buckets o’ Blood creating special concerns for the costume and wardrobe teams.

Last spring, Jessica Mueller and I presented a session at the USITT national conference on stage blood.  We tested many traditional stage blood recipes on different fabrics to document what recipes laundered away and which recipes stained fabrics.  If you’d like to download a copy of the presentation click here:  Out Damn Spot PowerPoint Version or click here for just the Laundry Blood Chart.

Please tell us about your stage blood experiences!  I’ve created a separate section (to the right) so we may all benefit.
